Will Antifungal Cream Take Care of Athlete’s Foot?

Will Antifungal Cream Take Care of Athlete’s Foot infected toesAre you unable to quit scratching your toes?  It seems like the more you scratch, the worse it gets.  How are you going to get rid of this insanely irritating condition?  Is the answer an antifungal cream?  Is it prescription pills from the doctor?  Or is it one of those crazy home remedies for Athlete’s Foot you’ve heard about.  In this article we will look at your best options.

Antifungal Cream: What exactly is it you have?

How can you tell if you have Athlete’s Foot?  Well, most people self-diagnose the condition and treat it accordingly.  It can be misdiagnosed, and the only way to be absolutely sure is to see a doctor.  They can do several things to determine what it is your dealing with:

  • Often a visual examination from a trained physician is enough
  • KOH Exam (a stained microscopic slide of infection material)
  • A Biopsy of the infection
  • May grow a culture of the tissue in a Petri Dish

When the doctor does diagnose you with Athlete’s Foot you’ll know you’re dealing with a fungus.

Tinea pedis is the fungal cell that most commonly creates the need for antifungal cream.  It is a Parasitic Fungal Infection more widely known as Ringworm.  Most people don’t know:

  • Athlete’s Foot is a type of Ringworm (the most common type)
  • A person can have Athlete’s Foot for a short duration or it can be a chronic condition
  • It grows in warm, moist conditions

If you have Athlete’s Foot, these facts will become important in your approach to treatment.  If you use the wrong remedy antifungal cream, you could be wasting your time.

Antifungal Cream: Cause

You get Athlete’s Foot because you came into contact with it.  That’s the only way you can get it.

  • Other people who already have it
  • Objects that have come in contact with the infection (clothes, linens, shoes, equipment)
  • High risk areas where the infection might thrive (pools, locker and bath rooms)

These are the ways the condition is transmitted.  Where you have a warm, moist climate, and interaction between people and objects that can carry the fungus, you have a breeding ground for Tinea.

Antifungal Cream: Symptoms

The symptoms of Tinea pedis are varied indeed, and if you look at photos of the condition you’ll find a plethora of different looks.  They are basically the same in all sufferers, but just have a different look.

  • Redness
  • Scaly, dry, cracked, or peeling skin
  • Swelling
  • Burning or stabbing pain
  • Blisters (possibly oozing or crust)
  • Itching, itching, and more itching
  • Under the nails (dry, discolored, thickened, crumbly)

Any one, or all of these symptoms can indicate the need for a good antifungal cream, and they can be present in one form, or a combination of them all.

There are three different forms of the Athletes Foot infection that have been detected.  Each one has particular symptoms associated with it, but is not limited to certain symptoms. Will Antifungal Cream Take Care of Athlete’s Foot diagram of foot

I had the worst ever breakout of athlete’s foot fungus ever last summer when I switched gyms. Obviously someone infected was walking around everywhere. I used creams from the pharmacy, but also tried the white vinegar method. It stung a bit at first, but really helped clear things up faster I think.

I had to laugh when I got to the recommendation of peeing in dirt and putting the mud on your feet. Are you serious? Why would someone opt to do that instead of using creams or vinegar or any of the other methods told here? Something else has to work before you resort to that.
